The Local Project’s Sydney studio is a warm, collaborative workplace designed to capture the culture and spirit of the publication. More than just an office, it’s where staff and visitors have the space they need for conversation and creativity to flow.
Set within an existing warehouse shell, the design draws in as much natural light as possible, centred on a bold, timber-clad volume at the heart of the space. The curved belly of the mezzanine is a defining feature, its soft geometry creating a welcoming gesture on entry and a sense of movement through the space.
The chosen materiality introduces warmth and texture. Timber batten screens pair with custom joinery and new oak flooring, while accents of green add freshness and tie spaces together. The open-plan layout supports collaboration, complemented by smaller breakout areas for focused work. A new recording studio and editing suites allow for production to take place without disrupting shared work areas.
Working with a client so deeply embedded in the design community allowed for collaboration with an enviable list of suppliers. As a practice with a similar appreciation for Australian craft and making, we welcomed the opportunity to work alongside those at the top of their field.
Another shared quality between our client and our team: a design preference that avoids overcomplication. The Local Project’s Sydney studio is a functional, joyful and highly resolved workplace that celebrates the local industry, and that now provides an inspiring setting for its leading voices to do their best work.
