We are proud to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people as the traditional custodians of this land. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present.

Mills St is a well-resolved family residence in a bayside suburb, ready to support the rhythms of everyday life. Behind a composed street presence, the planning allows different parts of the house to operate simultaneously, from quiet retreat to shared activity. A home office, children’s bedrooms and generous living areas balance with social spaces centred around the kitchen and rear garden. In this house, there’s space for all.

At the front of the house, the entry sits between the main bedroom suite and office. From here, a central circulation spine organises movement through the plan. Kitchen, dining and living areas are positioned at the rear, opening directly to the garden terrace and pool. Upstairs is given over to the children’s bedrooms and a rumpus room, territory the kids quickly claimed as their own.
The generously scaled kitchen is supported by a walk-through pantry that connects to the garage and the back-of-house entry. A splashback window looks to the garden, drawing light and green views into the centre of the home. The living room sits directly alongside the pool, slightly sunken to create an intimate space within the open plan, while the dining room looks onto a courtyard garden.

Materials play an important role in shaping the home’s atmosphere. Externally, bagged brickwork, timber cladding and battens sit comfortably together. Inside, polished concrete floors feature a warm aggregate. The overall feel is relaxed and robust; well-suited to family life.
Set in an area of varied architectural styles, it was important that the house did not dominate the street. The upper level is carefully sculpted, with a contemporary interpretation of a gable roofline that reduces its perceived bulk.

Despite the south-facing orientation, the design controls natural light and fresh air to keep the interiors bright and breezy throughout the day. Home to thoughtful planning, refined detailing and a calming palette of materials, Mills St is an address where family life unfolds naturally.
